One of my favorite Martin Mull moments: He was a guest artist appearing at The Grand Ol Opry, and told the audience, "Right now, I'd like to do something unusual for The Grand Ol' Opry..." — then strummed a jazz chord, helpfully informing the crowd: "A major seventh."

Snarky, yes, but delivered with a smile.

Love that! He hosted a PBS show called Soundstage, with guests Flo and Eddie, and more. Did the postman’s blues and one called “Licks off of Records” is a must see (if you haven’t)

That reminds me of this funny story: When I was shopping for a flattop steel string acoustic guitar a couple years ago I went into this modest-sized Mom & Pop music store in Tucson AZ and started checking out some Yamaha instruments. I played the first two chords from Allan Holdsworth's "Fred" and I swear every employee in that shop stopped what they were doing and came over to listen. One guy -- who turned out to be the store manager -- said "Them sure is some purty chords!" in a voice that reminded me a bit too much of the movie Deliverance.

If so, I'm pretty sure you can see a pre-Cars Greg Hawkes playing saxophone in either Martin's, or Flo & Eddie's, band.

Yeah, Greg is there, remember noticing that 30 years ago or better.
