who's producing your decals?

I don't do inlays or waterslide decals anymore, I use .004" abalone and .001" thick Mother of pearl that I have laser cut by Bryan England at custominlay.com

When I used waterslide I just bought inkjet waterslide decal that you print off your computer in 'photo' setting, let dry for a few minutes and then spray a light coat of clear acrylic Krylon over. The next day, cut, put for 30 secs in warm water and apply.

thanks, Wilser.

I'll call your supplier to have a quote.

What about the waterslide decals that you've done yourself, Did they've done the job correctly? I plan to finish my bass with my next bass with nitro but they other one will be waterborne. are they compatible when using the krylon spray?

thanks

yeah, the WS decals were ok. There were no compatability problems with nitro (I was using nitro at the time, so I don't know about compatability with waterbourne finishes, but I suspect if you let the krylon cure thoroughly, it should be ok). I switched just because the laser cut logos look more professional like an inlay but are very easy to apply without the need to rout or anything. You just glue them on the surface and finish over it, leveling the finish between coats until flush.

I had a problem with the clear parts on the waterslides showing a different tint when finished with poly. I still havent finished my last five string on account of the frustration of the decal. WILSER was the logo you did on the Zebra/Paduak bass done in the manner you just wrote of?

which brand is your waterslide decals paper? I heard this comment before. It seems to come from the paper most of the time. some says it comes from your clearcoat. Some brands doesn't match. I will receive some new waterslide decals samples at the beginning of next week, i'll shoot them and give you feedback.

there is always thw Wilser solution. which is not expensive around 9$ per decals if we can call it decals.

I believe they are Testors brand IIRC. I think the main problem for me is that poly (non automotive) will amber somewhat and the clear on the decal doesnt so it made it stick out like a sore thumb. Im sure it would work a heck of alot better on something that drys perfectly clear.

Yes. That one was MOP and Dan Hui's fretless singlecut was Abalone. I'll do a pictorial of the process I'm using when I apply it to Chris Clemente's bass.

And you also get quantity discounts, if you're going to build many.

Wilser, where do you get your .001" MOP and .004" Abalone?

Bryan England and his crew at http://www.custominlay.com

Maybe I should start getting a comission from him :D
