Probably Geezer Butler, aside from the amazing tone on the first Black Sabbath album and playing on the second he's always had a playing style which I've never really seen duplicated, of course there are litterally a ton of bassists who are amazingly great however Butler has always been my favorite

What I love best about Les Claypool is his subtlety.

Seriously, he's a great player, but he's pigeonholed himself into a style that demands to be front and center at all times when it might do him some good to pick his spots.

If he joined Pink Floyd, it would instantly sound like Primus somehow. Les fans think this is testament to his unique style, but others see it as a lack of refinement on his part. Every solo album or side project I've heard of his sound indistinguishable from Primus to these ears.

Still, he's too goofy to really dislike. I'd just like to see him grow a bit. The ability is unquestioned.

Jack Bruce is the guy that got me interested in playing bass. Leo Lyons from Ten Years After on the Undead album changed how I played. John Entwistle really kicked some ass.
