Whose got custom amp racks?

Anybody here have a cool looking rack for their amp head and other rack gear? Since my SKB took a crash (watch out for those flatbeds, they like to rock), I've been thinking of building something different. Thought about doing something with aluminum diamond plate, which I can weld up myself at work for pretty cheap, but the stuff they have is pretty heavy, so that might not be too wise.

So, who's got some inspiration for me? Let's see 'em! :hyper:

i'm actually in the process of building one, its a rack setup for my bass rack, pa rack, and my effects board combined. I'm going to post it up here soon, though its in process. The rack section itself is 8u with an 10u mixer area above and about 5 inches x 22 inches for the effects board on a pull out shelf that I built, its pretty cool but insanely heavy (all wood).

Used to build my own since a lot of the equipment needed special considerations - since it was built in stupid non-rackmount sizes {like some of the newer gear people are buying ; }

But they always ended up weighing more than they needed to and the time it took made the small savings a joke.

I wouldn't mind making some more, but it really depends on how the first one comes out. I planned on using a few parts from my D.O.A. SKB, like the rack mounts and handles and stuff, so if I made more I'd have to fab those parts myself.

This will also be a test of my aluminum welding skills. I do steel all day everyday at work, but I haven't done any aluminum since I got done with tech school over 2 years ago. :hmm: So we'll see how it comes out... If it goes really well, maybe I could do some out of plain sheets and get some airbrushing/pinstriping put on them. That'd be tight!

ha ha, good luck man, and pinstriping is always a good idea.
