quoting SITSOM the arrangers would approach James with what they wanted played and he would throw it on the floor and ask "you trying to tell me what to play"? And James would lay it down better than what the arrangers wanted. And if I remember correctly James didn't need extra takes...as it were.

Now that brings back some memories! I can't tell you how many nights I sat in bed, under the covers so I didn't get in trouble, listening to Ernie Harwell and the Detroit Tigers, or to "Rock Around the World" on my AM transistor (transistor - how cool is that? No tubes, and it's so small and light!). Thanks, I haven't thought about them in ages, and I love a good trip down Memory Lane...

Yep, had to use it under covers too. And late at night, even though I lived in Maryland that magical little box could pick up signals from faraway lands... like New York. And Kentucky.
