For a different tone color.

I had a fretted Epiphone El Capitan. It didn't sound like an upright, but judicious EQ gave it an interesting, woody bark. Punch for days, and it really drove a song along. My bandmates really liked it.

I sold it out of sheer laziness. I didn't like lugging that huge hardshell case around.

I bought mine for a few reasons. First, I wanted something to play when everyone was a sleep at the house. Next, it's nice to have one when some friends get together and jam just acoustically. I also like to take it with me to the lake and jam on it when I am not on the water. The final reason is there are a few power ballads that I like to play using an acoustic bass on them.

If you play an ABG, what was the reason you bought it for? and was it worth the investment?

My bass for “acoustic gigs” at the moment. Comfortable thin body, sounds good plugged in lol.

In all seriousness though I’d love to have a decent acoustic like the top of the line Warwick Alien 6 maybe. Would be cool to play my myself outside or on the couch or as another tool for the studio. I dig how the really good acoustic bass players have kind of taken acoustic bass in its own direction. Some treating it more like a Guitar other’s using it for as kind of a hybrid of bass and a cajon like this.

Camping with band mates around that campfire loaded with Southern Comfort and the air filled with the sound of acoustic guitars...all noise must cease at 10pm said the Caravan Park sign..rock on lads we wont charge the other campers for listening. Oh definately worth it.
