LOL @ Anyone who thought uprights had to be expensive.
It appears that they have what I asked for, for about $200. Just not in the upright format (but horizontal).

I've always wanted at "practics" bass...Yeah, but I much prefer simplistic, like this one:

It's really not that different from an EUB, save for lower quality electronics. Would be a nice project, to install a piezo pickup on it, a bartolini or EMG pickup swap, an active/passive circuit, and it'll be $300 for the bass + 200 for extra hardware.
