It depends greatly upon the manufacturer and things such as marketing, business model, profit margins, etc. etc. etc....

As far as being bothered - I think it's brand recognition and familiarity. Outside of the music industry and "those in the know" Carvin is a relatively obscure name. The general populous is taught that less expensive = not as good and more expensive = good. While that theory exists with certain things, with good measure, to apply that thought process to everything is painting with a rather wide brush.
