Why are there no 1 volume, 1 tone, 1 switch basses?

I would have thought Tele-style wiring would be popular on bass. But NO! Why not? I'd like to try it, but have no clue for values on pots or capacitors (2 jazz-type pups). Any suggestions?

With a passive JJ, I'd stick with the VVT configuration that has stood the test of time. However, in a passive PJ situation, I think the Tele style VT with a 3 way pickup selector switch is the superior configuration.

Well, G&L made the Lynx bass for a few years after making the first-type SB-1 bass for a few years. The two models differed mainly in the presence or absence of body contours. Both featured 1 volume, 1 tone, and 1 switch.

I’ve thought hard about doing this for my next build, having a P and MM right next to each other on the sweet spot. Could do vintage or modern at the flick of a switch, since I never solo the bridge anyway.

I have one bass wired like that (Serek Midwestern 2), and I kind of wish it had VVT controls…

I almost never use either of the 2 pickups soloed. On my basses with separate volume controls per pickup, I regularly “favor” one pickup or the other, but only moderately (e.g. bridge PU dimed, neck at 70-90%).

A friend of mine always has his Fender Jazz basses modded to Toggle-Vol-Tone. He likes the toggle in front (closest to the neck).

I have a P/J that is vol/tone and a 3 way switch and a P/MM that is vol/tone and a 3 way switch. The volume pot is a push/pull for series/parallel for the MM.

I agree that’s a great setup and more basses should be that way. Also prefer a blend nob to independent volume controls.

Has Gretsch been mentioned yet? The G2220 has volume, tone, and 3-way switch (bridge | bridge + neck | neck). Their other current models augment that same scheme with additional controls.

The first bass I built has EMG PJ pickups. It has 3 knobs, 1 volume for the P, one for the J, and 1 tone control. Simple.

Volume, Tone, Switch is my absolute favorite. Have I actually played it? No. But logically, it checks all my needs and I don’t have to ocd an active preamp eq.

I may to do a build of some kind, probably Warmouth, and do this setup.

In the mid position, I find that not having a blend or second volume knob limits your ability to sculpt the tone and even the output of the pickups in the passive PJ. You might as well just have a P
