Why are Warwick Basses so expensive???

The corvette was their lowest price bass, but it was nothing like a rock bass. Price at the time was $998.00. I bought it on my g-friends credit card (yes, she's now my wife :)), and ABed it before buying with a thumb, and a Streamer Pro M. Liked the sound of the Corvette the best at that time. It was considerably deeper than both. And considerably heavier. The streamer standard was the first rockbass like instrument I remember them putting out. And it was nothing like the current rockbasses. Was nothing like a warwick IMO actually, except for the shape of it.

The dolphin was a neck through which I had forgotten, but both basses were hand crafted back then I'm pretty sure. Maybe the dolphin was "more" hand crafted. :)

The Pro versions of the Streamer and Thumb use different woods than the German made ones; do they go through the same thorough drying process? Do the Asian factories harvest their own lumber with any kind of approval process from HQ in Germany for what is used?

grenadilla - there are stores throughout the US, where are you located? If you're just looking to buy online, The Bass Place has the largest stock of German Warwick's in the US! Please let me know if you've got any questions or if you need assistance in any way.

socialleper - The wood used in the Pro-Series is sourced by us. It is dried properly, but may not have the long storage times that the German wood is subject to. Both the Korean and China facilities are supervised under the strict quality control standards of Warwick Germany. Thanks!

Wow, basses don't get much lighter than that. The lightest i heard of was 7.3 lbs. Curious now, what did you end up getting instead, and how much does it weigh?
