Why aren't G&L basses more popular?

I find the opposite, that an L2000 doesn't really do Jazz, Precision, or MM at all. The MFD pickups have a sound that is unique to G&L especially in parallel mode.

yeah, i thought that was a 5500 too.

been window shopping for one; but I've never met one that didn't weigh 11lbs or better.

Looks like an L5500 body with an L2500 fretless neck and Barts installed. Except I see it originally had L2500 control layout. Maybe it's just the angle of the photo that makes the pickups look like the EMG40 size? Now this will drive me crazy.

It is a modern L-2500 THROUGH AND THROUGH.

Oh, except for the changes I made. :D

I found a set of Bartolini's that fit very close though there is a tiny even gap around them and the preamp is a NTMB-918F HR-5.4. The pre is Volume, Blend, Treble, Mid (with 3 way freq. switch) Bass. I was quite surprised that the controls fit but it was no problem.

I love it! Personally, I love the MFDs on my fretless L2500, but I can see how a set of Barts would be really appealing. One of the best fretlesses I ever had was a Warmoth Gecko w/barts. Started life as a fretted, but I swapped necks with the fretless I built and both really came alive... Anyway, that's a sweet fretless L2500!

G&L? Definitely firewood.

Seriously though, when you look at prices, even the early EB Stingrays are creeping up into the $1200+ range and 80s Fenders are getting up there too. A vintage, low-production, high-quality G&L bass can still be had for less than a grand. It's just a matter of time until more players catch on. Once the vintage market starts to go, people will pay attention and start looking at the new ones too, if they can improve their dealer network.

I've found that with the L-2000/2500/ASAT, the bass sings with its own voice with both pickups on, series or parallel, active or passive (no treble boost), and (this is most important) bass & treble controls to no more than 75% and volume no more that 80%.

That'll give you G&L. If you've been diming the volume, it'll also give you back some control from the beast.
