Double Bass Why can't I even come close without dropping $1500

I have a Barbera on my old Kay, and at times I play with tremendous volume (3,000 watt rack rig), and with a simple parametric EQ adjustment, I can get as loud as I need without feedback. I have also used the Barbera for recording (along with one or more mic's), and it has always worked well.

I use a K&K Bass Max to a Presonus BlueMax compressor to an Avalon U5 to a QSC PLX 1202 to a Bergantino HT112. Combos or big bands, I am able to keep up pretty well.

please tell me about the compressor with upright bass... what are your impressions? what does it do for your sound. what kind of music do you play? thanks alot
