Why can't I quit the OC2?

This post sounds low effort, but it's intented as a genuine question:

I own mutliple Octave dividers. Nice ones and rare ones. But everytime I get my OC2 on the floor, plug in 12volts, it's just perfect. Yes, it's inconvient to bend over to solo the sub. I It's noisy. The volume issues. But it's just THE sound.

Am I the only one here?

Because the OC-2 sounds pretty damned sweet?

Or maybe because you haven't tasted an Aguilar Octamizer yet? Same sweet intense analog-ish sound, but a little better tracking and way more control features. Love this pedal! :woot:

The Octamizer is one of my faves as well. The Clean Tone knob is great to allow mixing with the octave sound. The Octave Filter knob has a lot of variation and can sound like an actual bass if I need to go below a Low E on my 4-string. It's a nice little substitute for a 5-string in some cases. All that said, the OC-2 has a sound that so many octavers try to copy and just can't do. They get close but are always off by some small element. If someone wants THE OC-2 sound just get an OC-2 and be done with it.

Put it on top of your cabinet and control it there.

It's a legend. As mentioned, it does it's thing and does it well. Kind of like the original WH1 Digitech Whammy. It has it glitchy nature, but nothing else does that. (I did find the WH5 in original mode pretty close, though).

I have a MIJ OC2 on my main bass board, it's been there for 24 years and not going anywhere.

I had a MIJ OC2 Octave, it was originally on the above board for a couple years, but replaced with the Octaver. I sold the Octave to a friend about 10 years ago.
A few months ago, I was digging through my loose pedal box and came across another MIJ OC2 Octaver! I don't fully remember when I got this one, but I think it was in the last 5 years or so. It was at a local store and priced pretty low, as it's more beat up. Pretty sure it was priced as the later MIT 'Octave' version. I know I wouldn't have bought it if the price was 3 digits, and got it to have a loose one for grab and go with either guitar or bass.

As others have said, it’s all about that sound. Step on that button for a song and things get real.

The first octave pedal I ever bought was a MIJ OC-2. I’ve bought several since then. But I ended up selling all of them while I still have and use my OC-2. It’s kinda like a dear old friend whose quirks and annoyances you learn to put up with for the sake of the relationship.

My OC-2 was the second pedal I bought, back in the 1980s.

It is still my favorite, and I'd echo what many are saying. Despite its flaws, it sounds great, and I got used to its idiosyncrasies, so much that when I use a different octave pedal, I miss the glitches.

If you do not use the -2 octave (I've always found it quite a challenge on bass!), it's pretty straightforward to either desolder (reversible) or clip (non-reversible) the wires connecting it to the circuit. This fixes the "volume issue" and means the -1 octave signal will be above unity gain rather than slightly below. That was the only "quirk" I considered too troublesome to mitigate during live performances, and now my OC-2 is perfect.

Same here. My first pedal was a Boss CS-1, then a OC-2 that I bought new in the 80's. I should still have the OC-2 somewhere, but can't find it. The Japan ones are worth something and I'd love to sell it! The search continues.... :meh:

Tried to get one of those but USPS cacked up the delivery. It made it to my local Post Office but then just disappeared and was supposedly returned to the manufacturer for some reason. He said he would refund me if it made it back to him but no dice. I'd really like to get one, but fool me once... if I can find a used one, then game on.

Bummer. I know it’s like a two person barely squeak by operation but he should take care of you. I get so many comments about the glowing Taylor eyes but the sound is truly spot on. Kinda wish I had the new ones with the lpf knob. The one that bypasses dry is cool too but too big for my board.

They're taking care of me - he's going to have his partner make one this weekend and post it out on Monday. Confirmed my address. I'm very impressed with this level of customer service. I don't think many companies would take the hit like this and I'm hugely appreciative. Now the next question is whether or not it will knock my Broughton Subsonic off the board... Glad I get to find out!

Love it! He has a few more pedals I’m very interested in so maybe I’ll toss him some more business to help cover it.
