Why did Jaco remove the pickguard?

Its simple.

When the guard is removed on pre cbs basses it lets out a special pixie dust that improves tone, leo was Notorious for hunting down the best pixie's. When CBS bought out fender they used cheap pixie's that were able to be mass produced by the pixie god.

Thus jaco was good and pre cbs basses are worth more.

why is it that everybody who does not own a L series or other pre CBS Fender bass, puts them down? No 'Pixie' anything involved. Just better craftsmanship, materials, + aging= awesome basses! :D

A touch, a touch, I do confess. Well played.

But seriously, methinks you are overly concerned about defending the talent and influence of a guy whose accomplishments speak for themselves. I don't recall to many people calling him bad names in this thread. Granted, if we were discussing (for the thousandth time) some legitimate aspect of his playing or his impact on the music world and every tom and harry dick came in with a wise ass remark there may be some grounds for getting upset. However, we are talking about hte hypothetical reason why he may or may not have done something more or less irrelevant to his music or sound and having fun with it. Lighten up a smidge man, life's too short.

What I wanna know is why didn't he play a Rickenbacker?

He did not use a Rickenbacker 'cause he was a genius!

I seriously doubt that.

He shoulda switched to a stingray and learned to slap as soon as he could.

Everyone knows that the only way to actually play the bass well is to slap!

:D

This sis sound advice for any up and coming player, but for Jaco, it was not necessary. THe real imprtant issue to me is assuming he had a time machine and had bought a wishbass, would he have ADDED a pickguard?

All right folks, enough of this. EVERYBODY KNOWS that having no pickguard was a condition of his deal with the Devil, plain and simple.

Why the Devil cared about pickguards is beyond me.

Next up: The "Why Did The Devil Make Playing Without A Guard A Mandatory Condition In His Deal With Jaco?" thread!

I personally believe that the reason Jaco was so good is that he did have a time machine, and in the future he learned all his cool licks from listening to his records, and then traveled back in time. The reason he didn't have a pickguard is that it will be the style in the future.

I have some very talented nose hairs.
You don't know how talented some of the people here are.
:rollno:

Oh, I do know that there are some very talented players here. I've seen samples of their playing and sometimes I'm quite impressed.
I was addressing the Jaco bashers.
If you want to bash him, I dont care if you can play the entire back catalog of every single tune ever written standing on your head and blindfolded, you ain't worth (profane name for poop) in my book. That takes no talent at all.

If I were to bash let's say, Victor Wooten because he slaps and taps too much, I'm sure there would be an entire army asking me if I could do better.

Well, to the people that bash Jaco, let's see you do what he did. Not just play his tunes, WRITE THEM.
