It's the flux capacitor in the MXR. It's time aligned with the phase field in the amp, creating a hole in the space/time continuum... or something.

I would say the noise gate in the pedal does its job of gating noise, which means the noise comes from the bass or pedalboard, not the amp.
Ground switches only act on the di part and have no effect on the amp input.
