Why do, if you do, prefer one fingerboard material over the others?

Combination tone and aesthetics on my Squier Fretless CV Jazz.

It's fretboard was a rough-grained Indian Laurel that provided no mwah at all.

Also not a huge fan of the lighter color.

So I sanded, mocha-stained and sealed it with 6 coats of scratch resistant urethane.
