Why do, if you do, prefer one fingerboard material over the others?

Combination tone and aesthetics on my Squier Fretless CV Jazz.

It's fretboard was a rough-grained Indian Laurel that provided no mwah at all.

Also not a huge fan of the lighter color.

So I sanded, mocha-stained and sealed it with 6 coats of scratch resistant urethane.

Edit: To add some real on-topic content, been considering all day whether to use a maple or PF neck with a 3TS PBass project, or to spring for a real rosewood neck. Can't decide.

Maple, Pau Ferro or Rosewood all look good on 3TS finish in my opinion, I personally love Tort also! I like Rosewood the best but maybe more $$
