Why do people hate/shun warwick rockbasses?

So i have noticed in the warwick forums users tend to shune rockbass owners away and i notice alot of nasty comment towards rockbasses/rockbass owners

i have played alot of rockbasses and i love them, because i lack funds for a 2- 3 grand bass they are out of the question but i may be a rockbass owner soon so i just wanted to know the beef towards them?

and one last thing

should i lean more towards the rockbass

corvette , fortress , or the streamer? for the coming holidays?

there's nothing wrong with a rockbass, but here's the thing - you can get a used German Warwick for $600, sometimes even less, if you poke around. So why pay that much for an overseas bass that happens to be new?

I do understand that the new Rockbasses (with the "W" headstock and 2-piece bridge) are even closer to the big W-Warwicks, but still...

Also, I like the old ones with wenge necks the best

I'm no expert, but I like the sound of my rockbass corvette ACTIVE 5 strings MUCH better than my 3 Fender MIM's!

Price can't be beat ($307 for active 5), a decent chinese built german design.

wood seems nice, tone, punch and sustain is great, really fits nicely in the mix.

Hate? No.

Ignore? Refuse to consider? Yes.

I am sick of Western companies off-shoring their good name to make a buck and this whole "Rockbass" line is yet another example. So no thank you, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Pretty much for the same reason alot of people prefer USA Fenders over MIM Fenders of Squiers, for instance: what materials are used, the quality of said materials, and the country of manufacture (Oh, no, not CHINA!!!). But as far as the Warwick RockBass series goes, they definitely don't stack up quite as well as the German-made line of Warwicks, but that's not to say that they aren't great basses for the price. The signature Warwick growl is alot less apparent but then again if they really wanted it to sound like the upper-end basses they would've used less expensive woods with similar tonal qualities as the Ovangkol and Wenge they typically use. I personally like the RockBass line. I'm definitely alot happier that they've revamped the line to incorporate the stain finishes and the 2-way bridge.

Hi.

An opinion across the pond here ;).

It seems to me that when an European manufacturer outsources to Asia, it's way,way worse than when an US manufacturer outsources to Asia. Everyone can decide why's that :). Or is it just me?

IME the Suiers aren't as much "hated" as Epiphones, respectively to their "real" counterparts obviously, since the construction is the same, again obviously.

Fortunately the gear snobbery is (was) somewhat unknown over here, and is generally worse in virtual playgrounds than in real life.

Sam
