Why do people like rosewood boards with unpainted headstocks?

Beauty is not absolute. It’s subjective. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Painted headstocks generally look terrible and garish to me.
Platitudes aren't arguments.

When I say Beauty, I mean something different than you are. You use the word to generically mean "taste" with a little bit of "whatever I want it to mean, chud!" sprinkled on top. I mean the third in "Goodness, Truth, And Beauty" which IS Absolute. There is an element called Beauty that underpins the entirety of Creation, to this I refer to.

EVERYONE looks at the inside of a Cathedral and is in wonder. Even tribesmen who have never heard any more coordinated music before are in awe of Gregorian Chant. This is not them liking a flavor but is hitting on something that exists under your perception, under your being.

See comments in post #30 about spiders, because that applies here. Also the comments on how you have contrived reasons to hide rejection of things due to some dislike of appearance. Also the entire quote you were trying to head off at the pass, ESPECIALLY the second sentence: "Taste is subjective, Beauty is Absolute. Taste is abstract, but the feelings each color gives in relation to each other is concrete." Or just the entirety of post #30 because your post is not a reply but an attempted negation of it so you don't have to read it.

In other words, I'm not talking about taste like you are!

Instrument aesthetics are on a lesser level than all these things, but the idea is the same that there is an implicit, Natural reaction that is universal to specific things. That a person (purposely) goes against that reaction does not change that the reaction is there.

Like another user pointed out, it's unbalanced visually and takes you out of the experience. Like many others have pointed out, it's cheaper but sold as "vintage."

Only exception would be the sunburst on tort as also mentioned, but that's just because the scheme is so dull it would be like a black hole sucking in all joy if didn't have the one thing standing out that wakes you up from the nightmare.

I already explained this in post 30.
In post 30 you summarized your position as:
Taste is subjective, Beauty is Absolute.
Which means absolutely nothing. Beauty is a function of taste.

You don't like unpainted headstocks on painted basses. That's fine. Engaging in an argument about it is weird.
(edited because I just saw your most recent post: "Goodness, truth and beauty" is a platitude. Beauty is still a property of subjectivity.)

I can understand playing it because you like the way it handles or if you just don't care about looks, but I honestly can't figure out why some people prefer it.

For example, this one I made on the "halo guitars builder" (linked through the picture) looks okay, but the second you change the pickguard to black or just about anything else but tort and it just looks terrible. You would need to paint the headstock just to make it work then.

Funny enough, with a painted headstock (even just black painted), there is a lot more leeway on what pickguard/hardware combos work.

Also, I think a big issue is that modern rosewood is not actually rosewood, but some "technical nearest neighbor" substitute that often looks streaky or even orange (which is why I used "roasted maple" in the builder to get the shade of whatever tripe fender has been using for decades now). I think real rosewood looks just fine (even indian rosewood can look nice if it's not dried to jerky), because it's almost as dark as ebony and goes with everything.
Almost like people have different aesthetics and preferences.

Geez, I guess I haven't been paying attention. I own two electric basses (why? I'm an upright player!) and I THINK one of them the headstock is painted and the other one isn't. I'm pretty sure both of them have dark colored fretboards.

I try to play the things, not look at them.

Your premise is, of course, nonsense.

All of goodness, truth and beauty are mediated and localized. In your remarkably racist and demeaning comment about "tribesmen" who have never heard "coordinated music" - have you ever actually met/talked/heard from a real "tribesman"? Have you played them Gregorian chant (which is of itself a revealing choice of music to refer to) and seen their awestruck reaction?

I can only assume this is a impressively overdone troll thread.

Why do people like hamburgers with swiss cheese? I don't like it so they should like lamb burgers with feta.

Why do people like red cars with black cloth interiors? I don't like it so they should like white cars with tan leather interiors.

Why do people like blue denim pants with green shirts? I don't like it so they should like black denim pants with red shirts.

Why do people brick houses with blue doors? I don't like it so they should like aluminum sided houses with green doors.

Why do people like yellow sneakers with blue laces? I don't like it so they should wear orange sneakers with pink laces.

Why do people like mac laptops with pictures of their friends set as their desktop? I don't like it so they should use Acer laptops with pics of landscapes as their desktop.

Why do people like bass guitars with anything other than the color scheme i like? They're all idiots. There's only one proper color scheme: Blue body with matching headstock and maple neck and a vintage mint 3 ply pick guard. All other bass designs are wrong.

Everyone knows there's only one correct personal preference for any given subject. Luckily my personal preferences are the correct ones. Anyone who prefer styles and flavors and colors different from me are wrong. That's why there's that old adage, "Beauty is in the eye of me." I do apologize for not publishing my annual "Subjective Things that are Right or Wrong Almanac." It means people have to guess at what they should actually like, and then they get it all wrong by liking the look of basses with rosewood fretboards and natural maple headstocks and non-tort pick-guards. Really, that's on me. Sorry for dropping the ball on that one. 🫶

...wait a minute. I hate tort pick-guards. Well this is a conundrum. 🤔

(edited because I just saw your most recent post: "Goodness, truth and beauty" is a platitude. Beauty is still a property of subjectivity.)
Goodness, Truth, And Beauty are a Concrete, Universal Expressions of Love, Absolute Truth, And Natural Law which are The Three Foundations of Creation.

Love, Absolute Truth, And Natural Law can be likened to an Axiom or Reality itself. Goodness, Truth, And Beauty are comparable to Dogmas (True Thoughts) a concrete but fertile plane made in the Foundation of Reality. The universe then is what populates that plane.

These are not "platitudes," by ANY definition. A platitude is a catchy statement meant to exist in place of thinking; these are not statements but concrete elements that underpin the very essence of being that then manifests as everything.

""Goodness, truth and beauty" is a platitude." IS a platitude.
So is "Beauty is still a property of subjectivity."
And "Beauty is a function of taste."
And "[Reality] means absolutely nothing."
And "Engaging in an argument about [Reality] is weird."

These are statements, they are catchy, and they exist in place of actual thought. Worse they are there to try to silence actual thought, because you don't want anyone doing actual thought about you as a person. Even worse, but horseshoeing around into amusement, the mere demand that Essense (Goodness, Truth, And Beauty ARE Essense) does not exist is itself an expression of Essentialism.

"Essense does not exist!"
"Why does it not exist?"
"Because it isn't True!"

This self-refuting statement can be executed two ways, both equally humiliating for you"
"Truth Is The Second Form Of Essense, so to deny the whole under the partial of the category is absurd."
"you are saying it does not maintain the Essence of Truth, therefore you are admitting Essentialism to try to refute Essentialism."

There's a lot of knots you (or the person you stole your ideas from more likely) have to tie yourself into to keep your position going, and each one is a noose around the neck of all Mankind. It doesn't hurt Reality to deny Reality, it hurts us! Just like it doesn't hurt the ocean when you deny the fact we breathe air and so you spite the air by trying to "breathe" water and drown.

Creation is not a mode of your personal ego, so your position openly and proudly (in every sense of the word) means nothing. "Taste is subjective. Beauty Is Absolute." Is a statement, yes, but it's one of Substance; not only is it thinking, but it makes thinking possible.

Specifically, it is a Dogma. Dogmas exist as the middle between Axioms (Inherently Unprovable First Principles) and thought. See the analogy of Reality into Plane into Things I made earlier.

Or how about carl sagan's quote "to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe." that is ironically both friendly to your trite psuedo-intellectualisms and my Real points.

Other than just trying to be unforgivably blasphemous on purpose (which is your clear, blatant goal), there is no meaning to a single thing you have said. What you miss is this makes my ultimate point for me (which your entire attempt here is to try to dissociate from) that Reality Is Real and outside of your ego and that going against it is a concious act.

you are specifically saying things to be as infuriating as possible. In the process of doing that you unwittingly admit there is a Natural Law to be insulted.

Thank God both hell and the ignore list exist. Humanity can't survive much more of this!
