Why do people mess up good basses?

We may not agree on the best bass for metal, but I think this is clearly the best bass for steampunk.

Which begs the question.... What's the best permanent marker for metal?

Playable/smokable at the same time! In fact it seems your roadie and a few others can even join in (the smoking, probably not the playing). All it needs is some provenance proving that a 60's rock star now long dead from an overdose, once smoked/played it and you are ready to go for that auction reserve again. :)

LOL. Yeah, I don't like what some people do to classic cars, either. Sounds like we're on the same page. Still, I will go on record as saying if it's your bass/car you are free to do what you want with it. And, I think some people would think my bright orange bass with purple peace signs is kinda' dumb, too. Others would think my flamed koa bass looks like a "coffee table" instead of a bass. Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder, after all. :)

Well it's good to see that your distaste for western culture hasn't stopped you from participating in it, and then complaining about it using western inventions like the internet. When you've finally had enough of this stupid, corrupt culture; I'm sure the enlightened citizenry of Somalia (or Haiti, or Pakistan... take your pick) will welcome you with open arms.

If I were a member of a band that did some kind of steampunk stage show it would be just perfect...or for that matter if I were playing bass for Fields of the Nephilim, I'd be all over it.

Don't Sharpies wipe of with isopropyl alcohol?
I bought my (VIntage) Stingray (copy) cheap on ebay as it had several black marks on it (and rusty ten yoear old strings).
Turned out the black marks were marker pen and two injection swabs later were no more.
Stickers can be far more odious.

The Steampunk bass is awesome, but I feel the plain headstock lets it down. Surely some work needs to be done there too?

Labels and marks DO mean something: I knew a woman who put used diapers in a paper bag and stamped "Chase Manhattan Bank Deposits" on it. She'd then leave the bag on bus stop benches - they didn't last long before someone stole them.

So-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o prize!

I guess if the poo fits, play it.

I see both sides here, I always think the same thing of cars as well. But yeah if you buy it you can do whatever you want. The thing is if you ever go to sell it it may alter the price or be a bit harder to buy a buyer.

If the 'cartoons' are of a good quality and you like them, then I say what the heck.

My first bass was a BC Rich which I put a small (1/2") yellow smiley face sticker on the upper left corner of the body. My wife said to me "why the he|| would you do that?" Because I thought it was funny and looked good. And I am sure it would peel off if I needed it to. I wouldn't plaster the old Warlock with a bunch of stickers because it's not my taste. Nor would I draw on it because I am not that good of an artist.

That said, I understand your feelings.
