If we do not respect the raw materials, we will not respect that which we create from them or with them.
Yep - funny stuff.
Tell people that you see a problem, and folks will mangle your words, distort you meaning, and tell you to go far away.
Man, that's rich.

Yeah, what was this guy thinking? Who does he think he is to mess up such a valuable bass?

Don't post a picture of him with that early 60's Jazz in shell pink that he slapped the RHCP sticker on...

And that's just the outfit...
However, if a teeny bopper bought Jaco's bass, spray-painted it pink and stuck "Hello Kitty" stickers all over it...

this is an all time dumb ass post! i don't care how they look as long as they play great and sound good!
You seem to be saying that they are people "just because" of the feeling you have towards them. I would venture to guess that if you were to withdraw your "meaning and love", they would still be people. My father, my mother, my sister, my best friend, they are nothing more than matter. They are just animals. But I see them as people I would do anything for, just because of the meaning and love I have for them.
I was directly addressing the question presented: "Why do people mess up good basses?"...the question wasn't what you thought about western culture so why did even have to bring it up in the first place.

I don't know your family, but I'm pretty sure that they transcend being "just animals" and "mere matter" regardless of what you think or feel about them - it's called "innate value".
