Why do so many ppl hate Fieldy

Well.. Í used to listen to Korn A LOT a few years ago, just a coupple of months after I got my first (and only) bass guitar. I had been interested about playing bass for a long time but never felt influenced by a specific bass player, until I listened to Korn. Sincerely I found out that Fieldy wasn´t the big deal pretty soon, but after three years I still think that Fieldy´s bass playing style deserves recognition. No bass player had sounded like him before.. (the combination of percussive -muted note- rythims, mid range-less equalization, unusual synth effects, and -****ty- chromatic scales he managed along with his not less authentic and innovative partners, was awesome when they appeared on the scene.. and deserves respect..)

....exactly my friend.

I'm no bass expert, just really getting started, but the way I see it is; why should he get credit when he doesn't even try to play......lazy iz the word for it. I don't doubt that he can or can't play....I just don't think he wants to try...! That I hate! Now don't get me wrong, I've listened to a fair share of Korn...... :rolleyes:.......but the craze around them I don't get. And then there's the mimics.......

Exactly. Some may say they are at the opposite end of a spectrum. But to that, I say they still share that same lame-a$$ spectrum. N-Sync are on the goody-goody end of the spectrum while Korn are on the Bad Boys side of the spectrum. Clickety click click, I better run before Fieldy clicks my ass.

Do you think Jaco would be found anywhere on this spectrum? I ain't even talking about Jaco as a bass player here. I'm saying as an artist. Hell no.

To even mention Jaco's name along with N-Sync and Korn is blasphemy, but I'm just making a point. And I'm emphasizing that I wasn't referring to Jaco's bass playing when I brought up his name, so please don't respond by saying that Jaco's bassline to "Come on Come Over" won't go well with koRn's music or that his big band arrangements would clash with Korn.

Some people have genuine appreciation and reverence for the art of music and music itself is their focus. For many others, sadly, music is just a tool to try to fulfill their focus which is ________ (fill in the blank). Whatever you write in the blank, it for sure stinks.

Hey guys

I gotta say I've been reading the Fieldy bashing ever since I got here and I finally have to say something. I was really into Korn when I first started playing bass and I loved Fieldy but that changed as my musical tastes grew. That being said I still like what he does for their music. Everyone raves about his clicky tone but I guarantee that if you listen to some of their tunes through headphones you'll hear a hell of a lot of bass coming through. It's almost like a different instrument.

As for the slapping side of things if you read the article in bass player and then look at the lessons just try and pull off some of his right hand techniques at the tempos they're recorded at. Maybe it's not for you but it certainly isn't easy. Also on the tunes where he doesn't slap there's some pretty nice bits that he puts in there.

As for the Korn tunes if you got rid of his bass lines there would be nothing there. Most of the verse grooves are bass locking in with the drums (hey isn't that what we're supposed to do). Anyway I'll stop ranting now I doubt I'll change anyones mind cause it's too much fun to mack fun. Clickity clickity clack - don't come back :D.
