I'm not trying to bash them, I'm just really curious. I don't like them at all personally, but that's just me. What makes some people just go crazy about them?
...hello Butchertown...New Albany here...love by orange Broadkaster!...I don't go crazy about them, I just can appreciate what they offer. My short scales are lighter and smaller so they're easier for me to transport via bicycle or motorcycle yet they play and sound like a pro instrument should.
They have tiny, little baby pickups...they're cute...if that's what you're going for.
You might as well ask why long scale, or 5-string, or Ibanez, ESP, Schecter, or Dean basses exist.

Som people aren't 6'3, they're 5'3 with shorter arms and smaller hands.
