Why do you dig your Ashdown?

My ABM500 (UK)- into a SWR H8x8- is my go to stage amp now. I have a GK 800RB that blew, and while it was in repair, I bought this one.
My GT player has a the same in a 210 combo at his studio that I love also. These amps have tone in all the right places. I use a VT pedal but prolly don't need it with the Ashy.
I get compliments from the band EVERY gig!

I have a 1972 V-4 that I love even more, but it stays home. This is the sound I go for on stage.

Just a weird comment since it seems like everyone on the thread that had posted up to that point is actually out using their Ashdown rigs on gigs. There was no mention or indication that anyone was only using the stuff in their bedrooms.:confused:

But seriously.. My Ashdown has been my go-to amp for years. Ive gotten more tone compliments on that amp than anything pictured above. The only amp that came close to the same response was a V4B.... dont get me wrong, those above amps RULE!!, but that Ashdown is a total keeper!

I purchased an ABM500EVOII recently, after my Trace V-type 300h amps weren't working out for me anymore.

I really dig the tone, flexibility, and features. Got a lot of compliments on my tone with it.......more than I ever did with my 800RB. I thought the 800RB sounded godly.....go figure. ;)

Tonight at rehearsal, I'm going to A/B the Ashdown with my recently acquired 400+.

When I bought my ABM500, I had not heard of Ashdown or the cabinet I ended up buying (Epifani). I went to LA Bass Exchange and tried out all of the high-end gear and bought what my ears dug. That was... 2000. I've been playing that head and Epifani cabs ever since. It sounds great, has good headroom and has been dead reliable.

I didn't like the Ashdown cabs I tried out at that time, but they may be better now. I don't know.

Interesting! I had a 400+, I really liked it but at the time I needed more so I got a GK2000RB for that and dumped it.

I heard really good things about the V-type amps. Do you think they did better with euro power?

Needed more? volume?

The V-Type tube heads are legend.......the solid state heads sound great too....but I had some sort of protection issues.....randomly cutting out at higher volumes. No clue.:confused:
I had two of them.....traded one to GC for the Ashdown and have the other sitting in my basement.

Yeah. Was in an AIC tribute band. The 400+ had a few tube issues, but that got ironed out. I think SS holds the bottom better (in general) at really high volumes.

That band was freaking LOUD! I struggled all the time to get one decent tone so my options were limited.

The 400+ was a nice amp, but lacked the mojo the V-4 has, but then it was made in 1972!
