Why do you enjoy playing?

For me, it's definitely the feeling. There is nothing like the feel you get from a bass note.

Hit a low E or even a low B...and one can just feel the power of even a single note.

You just can't get that from another instrument. Then when you play bass lines, the beauty of that power with every single note just makes people move.

No one dances to guitar. Nothing moves people like bass.

I started playing because two of my friends had guitars, and another had a drumset. I was in a band BEFORE I even picked up the instrument.

I keep playing because every time I pick up my bass, or walk on stage, I'm home, I'm centered, and I'm in my element.

That, and the women.

Simply for the love of music. Even though I'm not all that musically talented. Also because bassists, at least through my experiences, tend to be forgotten about in bands, much like the drummer. Also I like being able to rattle the windows, which I cannot do with my guitars or my drum set!

I started on guitar, but a guy arond the corner from where I lived played bass in a band. I asked him if I could hold the bass for a second and when I held it and played a few notes I was hooked... I not long ago started playing again I guess because I felt like something was missing. I love the feel, the sound and the peace I feel when I'm playing.

because i played piano, and wanted to learn a fretted string intrument (bad experiences with violin) and had an acoustic guitar lying around that i picked up from QVC for $50. after quickly discovering that chords werent for me, bass seemed like the next logical step, and ive been hooked ever since.

Or in my case "Bands Reunited". I got into bass because it looked like a lot of fun. My mom insisted that I play acoustic first, so after 6 months of acoustic lessons and my unending battle to let me just play bass she caved and let me buy my first bass/ amp. What a good day that was.

Back when i was in high school my mates needed a bass player for their band, i had long hair and listened to a lot of music, so they thought i would have been good for the band. I didn't even know what a bass was then. The more i played the bass the more i liked it, and being in a band u become kings of the school. And i've been playin ever since......

+1 here.... Though I stuck with it (ala short attention span). Iv played Sax and such... tried a guitar long long ago... but that Low E, and now Low B, just shook the room. Thats what keeps me there... they can wank away on their Guitar... and Ill be standing in the back making everyones head bob from the shadows:ninja: Though dont get me wrong I love to jump up in front for a little solo every now and then:)

I (barely) remember sitting with my uncle as a pre-school kid while he played bass. In the 28+ years since then (now I officially feel old), I've played guitar, drums, violin, and mandolin but nothing else has ever come close to the connection I have with my bass. Playing live makes all the other stuff I have to deal with evaporate; stress just melts away. Plus, I like to make the floor vibrate.
