Well, kind of along the same lines:

I recently finished building my newest PC.
It features an i9-13900k, RTX 4090 and 64GB of 6000 DDR5 RAM.

I spend most of my game playing time playing 'Stardew Valley'.

Now what is that point of that??!!

(Oh yeah, I collect basses too. down to 7 right now)

for those of us who get it ... we get it ... maybe someday you will also get it ... I owned one bass for a long time ... a holy grail 60s 4001 ... since then I have owned a lot of basses. Playing in different bands it is nice to have different basses with different voices for me to express my musical self.

For me it's been about finding the right instrument as I evolve my own personal sound. As my preferences evolve, so does the axe. I try not to buy anything that I can't sell.

Also, why does an oil painter have more then one brush? (I know it's not exactly the same, but kinda: Art!)

This was me in my younger years! The most I've had at one time was 5 basses. Right now I have 4 and they're all keepers as I've found my sound on bass and on piccolo bass too.

I also have one baritone ukulele and one 6 string guitar. I bought my ukulele about 10 years ago and it's special because it was my first ever non-bass instrument. And my 6 string guitar was my sister's. She stopped playing guitar so I ended up with it.

I have a variety of guitars to accommodate different tunings, pickups and bands that I play in. Going from C to standard to D is much easier to have 3 guitars ready to go live, rather than tuning up and down each time. Along with a indie pop band to a metal band, i need different guitars.

Bass wise, I only really need 1 for live performances

Let's say a bass costs you about $1,000 on average... if you think about it, even people with a crazy collection of 100 basses have "just" bought a really fancy car (and quite possibly stretched that over their lifetime). That proves one of two things: either life isn't fair, some people just have a lot more money than other people and like to spend it on all kinds of stupid stuff, or some people just prefer to walk.

Everyone has their own reasons. Mine are that each of my basses offer a very different playing experience and joy, and for me the experience and joy are not only the main thin, they're the only thing that matters. I have 4, 5 and 6 string basses. Some with humbuckers, some with P-pups, some with flatwounds, some with nickek-roundwounds, and some with stainless steel roundwounds. Some have a 35" scale, most have 34", and many have 30". So you see, the playing experience is very different between all these basses.

They make me happy.

This is the premise to your entire post, and yet it's terribly flawed. My basses on average cost me around 270 £$€. If you meant to say that "Some people buy expensive basses, let's say 1000$ on average, and for those people...." Then your post would be accurate by default of being not falsifiable. But either way, (either because it's flawed or because it's not falsifiable) your writeup does not in fact prove anything.
