Why do you need Strap locks?

They're good if you're using a worn strap that's 25 years old! Other than that, they're just a cool toy. If you keep your straps fresh and don't sling your bass around, you don't "NEED" them. Although I have them on my basses the last few years, I have never had a bass come off a strap since I've been playing (early 70's).

I use Dunlop strap locks. I may never need them but for the small investment it is just a little more insurance.

That was pretty sweet. According to the comments he had straplocks but the plastic D ring for length adjustment broke.

I have straplocks because I'm an idiot, and therefore need them to protect the bass from me. I'm not a bass slinging over my shoulder idiot, though. Just a garden variety lift the neck and hope the strap doesn't pop off the button idiot.

I have strap locks on my electric but nothing for my bass. I'm not really moving around while playing.
