I agree, the function comes before looks, I guess I would change my mind and like the look too if I found I played better with a ramp... hmm, now where did I put that old piece of plywood...

That's a beautiful piece. And count me among the people who think that it looks at least as good with the black ramp as it would without. It reduces by one the number of rectangular forms that have to be integrated with the flowing, curved body shape. IMO we're so used to seeing black rectangles all over the body that we don't notice that they're not particularly attractive.
Also, is that all the natural coloration of the wood, or did you do a kind of "linear sunburst" towards the edges? It's very attractive.

pilotjones - There is only clear satin urethane on the bass. That is the natural color of the wood. It's Australian redgum with a "beeswing" figure.
brad - Thanks to you as well. This one's actually going to live on the east coast, near Boston. Well, for a month anyway. The guy that's buying it is then moving to Switzerland for a year.
