Why do you (we) have so many basses???

Some of us don't NEED all these basses, some do. I had 7 at one point because I had to keep buying them until I found my sound. Now I have 3 and I don't even NEED that many. I just bought a Lakland Skyline JO4 just because I wanted to try it for a while. I keep them in good condition and then sell them back for the same price if I don't need them. I'm not a pro, so I don't need backups or different tones for different gigs. There definitely should be a distinction between WANT and NEED.
Well....as a working musician playing lots of style i NEED: 1 upright-1 precision or similar vintage sounding bass-1 active 5 strings- 1 acoustic- 1 fretless.
