Why does fender put the logo in the wrong place on Vintera 50s Precision?

Every since I saw the Vintera P-bass, this has bothered me. Why would such a thing be done so wrong when it would be SO easy to get it right? It's much too close to the edge and it looks weird.

Do you think Fender does this to make it JUST a little bit wrong so that the American Original / Vintage remain more desirable? That is what I think, personally, and it's really petty of Fender to do this.

TBF, there was a LOT of variation in decal placement at Fender. Witness Marcus Miller's Jazz...of which, the shonky decal placement was honoured in his sig model

The deco more close to string tree on mine, but overall still to close to the headstock edge compare to AO P.

how can they (fender) predict which decal location people will prefer, and therefore be more “desirable “?

Both locations qualify as “original” to me. Plus I wouldn’t have noticed before reading your post.

Perhaps more importantly: Why did a company that fought so hard to trademark its headstock designs neglect to include the registered trademark symbol with its logo?

What do I think?

1) I think nobody noticed but you.

2) If they are the manufacturer/designer of the bass, it is (quite literally) impossible for them to place the decal in the "wrong" location. If they placed it upside down on the back of the head, and did that for every single one of those models, it would be correct, and as intended.

3) Nobody noticed but you.

4) This only bothers you.

5) Nobody cares but you.

6) Over the years, lots of Fender decals have been this close to the edge.

7) It has never bothered anyone..... except you.

Wrong, it's a 50s reissue so it should match real 50s basses and their own "accurate" 50s reissue.

If those pictures look correct to you , and the viniera doesn’t , then you really need to take another look.

I took another look.

My opinion remains unchanged. Vintera is right on the edge of the headstock which is incorrect and it’s too far up as well. Yeah maybe one of the examples given is sort of like it, but the majority or not. But with a Vintera every single one is placed like that, differing quite a lot from the American Original which never ever has such placement.

After extensive googling on my phone while waiting for my pizza to warm up, I think the Vintera example looks more like the genuine article. Either way I don’t think I would have ever noticed the difference.

This. Nobody ever cared about it being that precise (no pun intended) until collectors came along and decided that one example must be the Holy Grail that all others were subsequently meant to imitate.

I think a very good solution for this problem of "incorrect" placement is to stop looking at logos and headstocks on these, as you're bound to stress yourself out even more when you see the myriad ways in which these things might be slightly off from your imagined ideal. It's a good idea not to deliberately do things that create stress and anxiety.

This is subjective. Everyone knows the front is only the front when the bass is being worn or played sitting down- on the workbench the front becomes “the top” and the new situational front is actually “the sides”
