If battery, is it dead?
Understanding the difference between inputs and outputs goes a long way to ease trouble-shooting. If you understand that signal flow has to be output to input you can eliminate lots if not most connection problems.
It's not an input because a plug goes in to it, it's an input because the signal goes in to it.
