Why does TalkBass love the P Bass so much?

I have a PJ with a toggle switch to scratch my pbass with flats itch when needed. It’s not my #1, but it’s a nice tool in the box.

Also, not a fender, so it has a neck that fits my hand.

For me it is because it is iconic and brilliant in its simplicity. It’s like the Telecaster. Why is the Telecaster still so widely used and loved? It works for pretty much any genre, it’s classic, it has ‘that’ sound. The P-Bass is the same.

It’s part of Americana like Coca-Cola or Levi’s jeans. Sure some people like Pepsi more. Some people love Lee or Wrangler or boutique denim jeans. But Coke and Levi’s will always be icons and people will always buy and swear by them.

A Precision was my first proper bass and I played it exclusively for 26 years. Now a PJ has been my #1 for the last 15 years.

They play me. I don't have to get a sound, it's already there. No matter what I do I can't mess up!!
