HIC!

I drink backwards from a cup. Works every single time.

-Mike

I do this, the tablespoon of sugar; or I stand with my arms outstretched at the sides, head looking up, and breathe deep a few times. One of those three always work for me. I used to get the hiccups allot and from what I remember it is thought to be caused by some issue with the diaphragm. I have learned that I got the hiccups mostly during coughs and now force my breath through my nose when coughing (as much as possible) and I haven't had them regularly since.

As far as people not believing solid advice, I try to remember that we are all conditioned by our past and many people have not been taught properly how to navigate life or their own mind for that matter. I will try pretty much anything (within reason) and often times things do not work as advertised but sometimes they do, and sometimes it is the last thing you would expect that works for you; most people do not have this kind of mindset and are more interested in reinforcing their own beliefs and prejudices.

One time during a bout of hiccups, a friend offered to scare me. I accepted.

“No matter what you do with your life,” he said, “you’ll die never knowing for certain if anyone ever loved you in a way that you would find meaningful.”

That was four years ago. Haven’t hiccupped since.

Just for the record, I may be old, but I definitely love you in a way that you would find meaningful.

We’re here all week.

Maybe you should go back to crying. If I can figure out what state Chicory is in, I've decided to take her out for Sushi.

I like to keep my details nebulous so as to continue living my reckless triple-life but, for what it’s worth, consider my soul sushi’d. c:

I was doing it to a young lady at a corporate job one day, a number of years ago, and someone remarked that my "touching her in that way" was "inappropriate." I realized the danger in putting your hands on anybody any more, and retired my hiccups cure, unless we're intimate, or very close friends, or family.
yes, touching anyone beyond a common handshake, especially colleagues, without their consent is inappropriate.

....when I tell them I know a sure fire cure for hiccups???

A teaspoon of sugar swallowed, without letting it dissolve, wipes them out. Every time. It has something to do with the crystals getting into the air pockets (or something like that) that cause the hiccups.

Whenever I tell someone however, despite how serious and convincing I try to be, they smile, laugh, roll their eyes, or just ignore me. Even if their hiccups are killing them!

I'm getting fed up with it!!!!

Oh the humanity.....

Somebody please tell me why? I cant lose another night's sleep.

Just asking Joe, do you know what causes hiccups, and what happens physically when you hiccup? There are zero air pocket in your stomach unless you consume carbonated beverages, or eat food with a very high basic ph, and even if your do, it’s belched out.

I’m no doc, but what I understand is a hiccup is a spasm of the diaphragm, much like a facial twitch, or other muscle twitches. I’m not so sure a metabolized teaspoon of sugar, swallowed whole or dissolved, is going to make much of a difference with your muscles unless you have some other metabolic conditions you should see your Doc about.
