I do post in other forums. I do have my GAS
pretty much under control, but occasionally I will
see something in Basses that moves me.
With 2 in college, new pups, new basses, new effects,
crikey, even new strings are a bit back-burnered.
Yet, TB has motivated me to pick up a used jazz,
(subsequently co-opted by one of my offspring), and
a used EUB. Also, it has motivated me to review some
aspects of my right hand techniques, to the point of
playing the 34" basses exclusively fingerstyle, and the
short scale in both finger and pickstyles.
I have made a few friends here as well, and come
here to TalkBass, as well as to talk to
Bassplayers, as, when I only TalkBass,
the conversation is a bit one sided.
And where else can you get really bad legal advice,
love advice, car maintenance tips, computer help,
as well as chastise people who are atrocious abusers
of the English language or admit to shoplifting all in
one dandy site! I even got to abuse one guy daily
for 6 months straight! Where else can you get that
kind of thrill?
And to top it all off, you can watch the Lounge
Brats( only if you are a supporting member,
of course ) solve the world's problems while
shredding each other with barbed cynicism
laced with cyanotic diatribe!
I don't use effects much, my strings are ok,
setup I lurk in but Hammy is much better than
me with solutions.
But as a musician, I find my fave forum to be
Misc, and OT, as I like to talk to other musicians
about music, which leads me sometimes into recordings
and bassists as well.
My penchant for stupid band names has lead
me astray into the Band sections from time to
time, and I will say the highly underutilized
Humor forum can be funny. Nothing better
than a good laugh, keeps the blood pressure
under control.
But I am quick to post the ridiculous, the absurd
and the sublime when I come across it,
especially if I feel it will tickle my poor, mostly
humorless, bass siblings with a smile and
brighten their lonely existences.
And one of my favorites activities is watching
Michael Jewels eviscerate a vulnerable sentence,
and deliver a knockout lampoon in the form of
PUNch, pundit and witticism. And the
clandestinejackass is pretty good there too, as
well as the rest of the TBSG crew.
