Why I lost a bit of respect for Sting (Rick Beato Interview)

The thing I always question, with a Beato, or any of the others, is where does the money come from? He can't make that much from YouTube alone and he can't be selling that many Beato books. I have his ear training course, but how many are paying $200 for that? How do the bills get paid and who pays them?

I was under the impression that with enough subscribers, YouTube can pay well. Don't ask me what enough is.

You're probably right. I do hear from you tubers often though how it doesn't pay as well as what people think.

Learned to play and perform Police covers back in the day in a band taught me a lot about space in a song.

As for Sting, never met him nor do I know anyone in my life who did. But in my experience with others, character, talent and success are unrelated from one another. There are some incredibly gracious people who are legends, as there are those who are scoundrels - their success or talent has nothing to do with their character.

50 years ago when I was first trying to figure out how this whole music thing worked I would loved to have the access to a Beato channel, I don't quite get the animosity.

I'm not a Beato fan, but I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. The internet has provided us with a wealth of instruction and it's easier than ever to find tutorials.

I dislike Beato because he's loud and brash. But that's also a thing going back to talk radio and the loud and brash get the most subscribers. The guy certainly has credentials as a musician, professor, and producer. I've just found other YouTubers that speak more directly, and maybe a little quieter.

Interesting. Most of the greats that I've met who are really gifted have always been super down to earth and humble. I'm sure some of them are jerks but I guess I'm just lucky

My only point is that it doesn't matter to me. I can enjoy/respect their art even if they're weirdos

Don't understand the animosity towards either of them, personally. Don't really sense either one as obnoxious or egomaniacs. They both seem thoughtful and knowledgeable about their domains and I found the interview far more enjoyable than any other string interview because of that. Some people just like throwing rocks at limousines I guess.

His interview with Ron Carter is MIND BLOWING!!! Primarily because we get to hear an EIGHTY FOUR year old relive the Jazz Scene of the 60s with much technical competence for working with computers and internet stuff! And he is very quick and sharp minded! Highly recommend watching that interview at least.

I don't know much about the logistics of making money on internet platforms, but I'm guessing his household has more than one income.
