Why I love owning a Squier

Garbage bassist, but I love this goofy instrument

I have a Squier that I refurbished and brought back to life. She's the least expensive in my stable, but just as important.

Last night I came home from practice and it was pouring. She was in the trunk, and I didn't want to hassle with getting soaked while trying to grab her. So, she spent the night in my trunk.

This is not an option I would extend to my other basses.

My band also had decals made. Which bass now has one?
:)

Love the beater bass.

Nice looker.
Are those Quarter Pounder pups? What mods did you make and in hind sight which ones do you feel gave the biggest bang for the buck.
I'm considering getting another Squire and decking it out for a retro surf/beach band we're thinking about starting. Haven't decided on a tele or a jazz or a precision or a jag just yet but I do love my Squire Jazz and am sold on the cost/quality ratio these things have.

I just came back from Guitar Center where I played a CAR Squier Affinity P. They were asking $99 used for it.

It played and sounded great.

I do believe Squiers (especially Affinitys perhaps) can be hit and miss. When you find a good example of one, though, it can be a little killer.

Here's the actual mod thread.

This was my first attempt at doing my own string-thru mod. It turned out pretty good for my first time, but gave no huge difference in sound. I've done two string thru mods, and both were learning opportunities, but massive wastes of time. However, this was my first time using a Fender bridge with threaded saddles. A very nice piece of hardware for little money.

This bass had those small cheap Squier tuners. I did a massive relocation of the tuner holes which forced me to do a color match headstock. By far, one of the most aesthetically pleasing mods I've done, and the tuners were a lot nicer.

The Quarterpounders made a pretty nice difference, and gave this neglected beast some huge low end and growl.

The best bang for the buck is the ashtray I installed a few months after the initial tear down and refurb (not pictured). It serves as a great place to rest my palm when playing near the bridge.

This bass is a fun one to play. It's very P Bass. Lots of Lows, and it barks. It has the lowest action versus any P I have ever played. A great deal for $30 + $300 in parts and setup.
