Why is everyone so jumpy?

Seems like people are always ready to jump on someone and attack them on here. No matter what the topic, someone always ends up making some kind of dig at someone else.

I am all for people having different opinions, the world would be boring if everyone got along... it's just that little bit of nastiness you can get a taste of from some replies... why? What good does that do? What could be a pleasant, worthwhile debate often ends up just an argument, with lots of silly bickering.

Could you list some examples of threads? I'm not sure what you mean.

Some people run out of good things to say but not the desire to retort so they lash out start making hurtful stabs etc just for that reason. We've all done it.

Other more experienced campaigners can use an appropriate and well timed "jab" to open a little emotion hole that lets the point sink a little more or gets you dwelling on it more.

What I don't like is the consistent picking apart of posts or picking on people deliberately because you just don't like their views or them. Thats the worst IMO

And adding human emotion always make for a more fruitful and interesting debate, IMO. Could you imagine an Elliot Goblet vs Elliot Goblet debate?

TalkBass is no different than the many, many other Internet Forums. I've been on numerous other Forums for over 10 years and it's always been this way. Get a bunch of people together, have them all express their opinions and there are those that will feel the need to jump down someones throat because of something they didn't like. You know, it's this free speech thing. :D

You have to be thick skinned to endure the frankness of people on the Internet. It's a lot easier to tell someone off in the safety of sitting in front of a computer instead of a face-to-face confrontation. That's why you will read a lot of things that most people are to scared to say in person.
