Why is G soooo bright on many flat wound sets?

I’ve found Ernie Ball Group Flats are pretty consistent across all 4 strings. They have a little of the D’Addario Chrome brightness when new, but not much and it goes away with some play.

I’d describe them as being between Chromes and La Bella DTF’s as far as tone.

I dont have that issue with ghs precision flats set 45-126, this are not so flexible and kinda dark. G sounds focused but not zingy at all. If you use 40 G, go heavier

These strings have been on at least 1 year.
Im not new to flats and am aware they must break in, I just really hate the imbalance from string to string.

Physics is a b**ch. The smaller diameter and windings will pretty much always cause the imbalance. on top of that, you likely play the G string much less which then compunds the imbalance.

1: play the G string, a lot! I grab a bass anytime I am just sutting around and just pluck and fret the G string and also slide up and down the string, let your natural oil and skin do their work. It will deaden more quickly.

2: Learn to love it. Not sure where I read it, but someone said think of the G string like a snare drum and embrace its spank!

LaBella DTFs are the worst with the zinger G. Or maybe it just stands out more because the other three are so nice and warm. TIs are much better matched for me, but sometimes I want the big, dumb thump of higher tension flats.
