why is it important?

I work in a state-or-the-art recording studio. We have one of the few DSD, a.k.a. Super Audio studios in the world. Pink Floyd, Elton John, Peter Gabrielle,... countless others trust ONLY DSD for their digital master transfers.

Anyway, my point is this. I spent hours and hours soldering 32 channels of PB 25 connectors run to XLR inputs and outputs to use for the DSD machines.

Have you guys seen the size of the wires it takes to solder a PB 25 connector? They're TINY.

The size of the cable makes no difference. This time-aligned BS that Monster shills at you is completely false.

Here's another point. You spend all this money on a fancy Monster cable, then plug it into a Boss TU-2 tuner. Ever open those up? All printed circuitry. Where's your Monster "quality" in there?

Not to mention the wire in your speaker cabs, 99% of the amp heads, etc. Or even the leads that go from your pickups to your pots and output on your bass.
 
I'm with Jimmy here, I just sort of buy whatever. Shoot, I have Radio Shack cables. I can honestly say I can't hear the difference between them and my Monster Cable. Now, the MC is more durable, but soundwise, cannot tell. My favorite cables are the Vox Curly Cables (though I've yet to try the Lava Curlys), but that's based on the fact that they're curly, don't get all tangled, and look pretty darn cool.
 
That article brings up a good point of the cumulative effect of cabling. Long runs of cable absolutely do effect capacitance which results in a passive EQ effect of rolling off the highs. But only in a passive instrument or anything with a high Z. And even Monster cable can't eliminate that because if they did they'd be breaking the laws of physics.
 
What if there is greater effect with certain guitars and heads than with others/ The difference may be more or less pronounced so when the poster hears no difference it doesn't mean that his/her ears are suspect, necessarily. The test referenced above shows those conditions with that test gear. Does it really replicate the front end of a '65 Pro Reverb or a rather new Bogner? What if there's a noticeable difference with an Alnico pickups or between a humbucking and a Fender?

Just as the Muff acted as a buffer could the front end of an SWR make the distinction quite apparent while through an old SVT not so? Possibly two posters are not hearing the same thing because their rigs and basses differ.
