For some reason, this axe just seems to evoke the spirit of the bass for me more than any other model I've ever played. As they say, Leo got it right the second time!

Why is Jazz Bass still the best?

I agree...because it works for me. But I don't think it's best bass for everyone.

There where two P basses so technically the Jazz is the third time and after that was Musicman(even that is not true because there was the Coronado and a weird % string thing) so G&L would be like 4.
As far as the Jazz goes the neck is great but too few frets, the pups sound great but the body is too big. IMHO

Basses are like women...there is something alluring about each. they all have a place in the world. That being said, I'm a big fan of the Jazz Bass!

love J basses - in anyone else's hands....for my uses and playing style they are always too scooped....

The jazz isn't the best (IMO), but (IMO) the best jazzes are modern ones (Sadowsky, Lakland, Lull, etc.)
I generally go to my P anyways.
Jazz is the best. This is coming from someone who's main bass is currently a P.
Musicman, nice but not my thing. G&L is nice, but can't get past the ceramic pups. If I were to get a G&L, I'd get the JB jazz bass model. LOL.
