Why is Jazz Bass still the best?

Tired of these "the bass I personally prefer is the best bass ever," threads...I realize the OP of this thread was attempting to be satirical, but it really just fuels the fire.

Just play what you want and enjoy it, you don't need to "enlighten" the rest of us.

I love my Jazz Bass, but it now sports a fatter p-bass neck which makes it sing a bit fuller in the higher register.
There is something about the depth of both pu full-on (the slight dip in the mids, to solid lows, growly low mids and airy highs) than cannot be replicated with single pu basses, although I love my pbass and love rays too...

Exactly. The p bass is best - FOR ME. That's all I care about. All this angst over stating a preference (which is all anybody is really trying to do. perhaps by overstating things, but, so what) is just plain silly, and threads mocking them aren't helpful at all.

The Jazz bass has always been the definition of bass sound to me. Ever since I started playing the Jazz bass encapsulated what I thought and felt the bass could really do. I love them. I love the body styling. I love the sound. I love the neck. Fender Jazz bass will always be my favorite bass of all time that I feel can to any genre and do it the best. I know people love P's on here. I just ordered one myself, but it will never take the place of my Jazz bass.

I got my first jazz yesterday. I like the sound but I'm not crazy about the thin neck. The narrow string spacing is taking some getting used to. I'm not crazy about P necks either, but I'd prefer it was a little wider. It sounds great though.

Feel your pain about the string spacing. That's the reason I was never really crazy about 5 stringers, it's tight at the nut, tight at the bridge, but for me the J fits the right place between 'too broad' (P) and 'too shrunk' (5 and 6 string basses, generally).

I have a Carvin LB90 that I thought was basically a jazz neck but it's so much more comfortable than this neck. I never really thought minor width differences really mattered but they apparently do.
