Why is Jazz Bass still the best?

That doesn't mean I think starting a thread mocking another just because you don't agree with it is productive.

Because this forum is ALL about being productive.

Sure, maybe this thread belongs more under the humor section, and some people obviously don't immediately get that it's poking fun at that other thread, but I'd rather read a thread such as this, in jest, than another 5 serious ones about "X IS THE BEST BASS EVAH" with the ensuing "debate" or anymore about "Who makes the best X-bass who isn't the actual manufacture of X-bass?".

J basses are great, no doubt, but for some reason they always sound better to me when someone else is playing them. When I try them they always sound too zingy and trebly. Don't care for the look either.

I think the P has a fuller sound. Neither of them is the best though. That distinction belongs to Rickenbacker. :hiding:

The Jazz is my favorite Fender model. I love the power of the scooped tone. I know the midrange of a P-bass has much more punch, but I love the clear definition of a Jazz Bass' tone. The Music Man Stingray and Sabre are other favorite Leo Fender designs.

Well, the whole concept of one bass being the overall best is silly. However, if you take time out of the equation, maybe the P bass thread is mocking this one. I believe this to be true because this thread has much more credibility than the other one.

1951 Precision is where it's at.

The Jazz bass, and the many custom made versins of the Jazz, are the most flexible basses for more styles of music. The neck is comfortable. The variety of tone between the two pickups just makes this a better bass.

what's with the "why is my preferred bass still the best" threads? i've never played a jazz i've liked as much as a P but i'm not going to go around telling people that the P is a better bass, that's just be dumb. people's opinions and all that.

Yeah, refer to the 'sister' thread, note the P idolatry and elitism and you'll understand why you're a rational human being and those who idolize the precision are zealots :D

Maybe a thread should be started, entitled, "Why are all basses still the best?".

Or, to mock P idolatry, name it "Why are all basses (except precision, ew!) still the best?".
