Why is my 5 string downtuning better than my 4 string?

Basically, my cheap 5 string Cort ABV is detuning the EADG to CGCF really well and sounding great, but my SBMM SUB Ray4 is really suffering with tension - they're about as tight as thread.

They're both using the same brand, type and gauge of string by the 5er is just taking the dropping better.
My only thought is that the low B (which is still B, making it BCGCF) is keeping the tension on the neck.

Any thoughts?
