why is the computer not picking up my bass?

I used Krystal about a week ago and used the line out of my amp head into the line in on the computer and i was able to record but it was very distorted. I since then bought a sansamp and wanted to record with it. I downloaded Reaper but it seems that nothing i do makes the computer or the program pick up my signal. am i doing something wrong? im running the bass into the the sansamp in and running the 1/4 out on the sansamp into the computer.

check your connection (easiest fix/point of failure)... maybe you are in the wrong computer input.

check all the advanced properties of your sound control panel.

If the recording was very distorted you may have been in the "mic" input before and/or had the mic boost enabled.

Reaper work best using ASIO, if you're using the integrated soundcard without ASIO, try Asio4all: http://www.asio4all.com/

Install it and choose that as input in Reaper. Trying to monitor your playing without ASIO would be a pain anyway because of the high latency.
