Why is this bass so expensive?

For some reason unknown to me, many basses being sold out of japan are almost double the price of the same new bass in the US.

This, and it's also true of many other guitars, basses, and other gear sold from Japan on Ebay.

There would be no reason to pay that much when the same bass sells for $400 MSRP here. You can also add to that this seller has been accused of outright fraud and misrepresentation 6 times in the past 12 months.

Because it's a Fender!
And so many of you want them!

Does the price include shipping? If so, that would account for a good part of the cost.

It does. And the person in Japan is likely to have put it on at a certain number of Yen, so currency variations might explain some of it. If I'd put a bass on in 2007 for £500 it would have been $1000, and in early 2017, that same £500 would have been about $600!

Just for reference, I bought a used 2013 MIJ Fender Classic 70s Jazz Bass (75 RI), from Japan in early 2015. It goes for around $1300 new, the one I bought was used but still had all the plastic on it and was literally brand new. I paid around $700 shipped to me here in Chicago from Tokyo.

Only took two days to get here too. I noticed the Japanese market has doubled in price since I last bought mine.

Glad I jumped on it when I did.
