People do that in Serbia all the time! Cheap item being sold for insane price with some dumb description claiming that it is way better than similar ones (for example it was built in Taiwan and it is better than other ones built in Indonesia), and then someone stupid takes a bait.
So did I get ripped off when I bought mine on Offer Up for $225 in new condition with a gig bag and a Rumble 15 amp?
Probably one of those “but I’ve got a bass for sale honey” ones. Lots of those online. Seller list bass they don’t want to sell for an insanely rediculous price just to keep their wife off their back. I see it on eBay, reverb, talkbass classifieds. It’s all over the place lol

I had posted a thread a couple weeks ago about this. Evidently there are a few unscrupulous sellers in Japan that are using ads from Reverb to sell basses at twice the cost then having Reverb drop ship the bass. This is the height of cynical underhanded selling tactics to date. The worst part of it is eBay doesn't care. They've surely noticed the glut of overpriced basses being sold from "Japan" but because of the Almighty Dollar" they aren't doing anything to stop these ripoff sellers.
I'm disgusted with both eBay and the sellers. Also Reverb because they know the sellers are using their pictures and drop shipping. The sad part is that some poor sucker in the US is going to buy a bass from them because he might only have eBay credit instead of store credit. Disgusting business practices.

Apparently free shipping from Japan means the seller flies it to you personally in his carry-on.

Beautiful until you get up close to it. Then you see that the binding is not the same dimensions as a Fender, the tint is way overdone and the truss rod access is in the MIM spot rather than the MIA. None of those make it a lesser instrument, but they're all on the list of stuff FMIC does to their budget lines.
True but it's listed as a Squier Classic Vibe so the bass itself is not being misrepresented.
If you look at the cost of shipping and the movement of the Yen against the dollar, that could account for about $400. So it might be more like $600 (in Yen) domestically. Squiers are cheaper in the USA than elsewhere, and the equivalent price for a CV at typical £:$ rates (1.5, not the current 1.35 - they were about £350 before Brexit, but have only edged up a bit since) would be over $500. So when you take all of that into account, the prices might be a bit out of whack, but the seller might only be $100 over the odds.
It is, but eBay converts currencies when you sell things internationally, so the person would either have input the price in Yen, which would be converted, or if not, then they probably took the price in Yen and converted it themselves.
