BTW, if anyone is seriously interested in having a custom board built, I do take commissions (and no, it doesn't have to be that big or have lights LOL!). Feel free to PM me. Here's one I did last year without the bells and whistles. For the record and fair warning, they are solid baltic birch cabinet grade ply, so they are a good deal heavier than your typical pedaltrain style board.

EBS flat cables have tiny ends, not appreciably bigger than the cable itself, really.

I'm amazed at the reach of TB membership and how it gets back to me...Recently had a high school friend reconnect and he mentioned that he'd been having a business conversation with a rando, and somehow it came up that he knew me from TB and was a bass player. There's also an extensive web here on FB, instagram and others. Often times I'll play in a town I've never been to and have a TB'er come up and introduce themselves.

No worries at all! Believe me, when I started planning this board I mentally prepared myself for a lot of "really?!" type feedback. I just decided to go for broke in it's design since it was going to be so big. Heck, as far as I'm concerned, the fact that anyone at a gig noticed the bassist's pedalboard at all means I did my job LOL! Hopefully next time the 80s group makes it out your way we'll have our A-team and I can actually use it to it's full potential!

yeah i wish i knew they were as large as they are before i purchased them. thinking of switching them to the one-control hammer midi cables

Those bulky rockboard cables on the back of his Boss unit are the flat MIDI rockboard cables. You can see he cut the rubber around the right one to fit, and I had to do the same to mine. With an exacto knife and a careful hand you can completely remove the rubber as it’s mosly for stress relief.
I went all out with the ones I had and also did a vertical slit and removed the entire jacket. Leaves just the metal sleeve & hard white plastic back. Believe it or not the white cap does an awesome job of keeping it all together. I’ve changed the board layout a bunch of times and they have never failed me!
Allows for some really tight midi patching, I’d say if you’re brave enough this is the most low profile configuration that’s not even on the market!

You can see how fat the OneControl looks on the bottom right of my Soleman compared to the decapitated Rockboard midi.

Also- the gold 1/4” patch cables are the Rockboard patch cables. They are a bit longer but soooo flat.

That's what I use on my guitar pedalboard, because I needed right-angle MIDI plugs and didn't like the Rockboard ones. They work well, though from memory (don't have the board in front of me) they only just fit in the MIDI jacks on my Strymon pedal because it has recessed jacks, but they do fit.

I have both and prefer the One Control Cables. I tried all the 90 degree cables, and the One Control were the best fit. The others all covered other ports or just routed weird.

All I can say is, why? Even if you're an effects maven, would you show up with such a ridiculous rig, bragging about the fact that it lights up, when you probably wouldn't use more than two of the pedals on the board?

I get enough crap for the small pedalboard I use that's 1/5 the size, usually from guitarist with bigger boards ironically enough. I can't balance on one foot long enough to hit the pedal I'd be aiming at on that guy's board anyway.

I don't have much on my board; tuner, compressor, chorus, envelope follower and an EBS Microbass II preamp. The sound engineers LOVE that I can give them an XLR off the pre. It's jackass guitarists who think bass players should only go direct.
