Why on earth do they put carpeting on cabs?

I favor hardwood over carpeting, especially in the dining room. Never saw kitchen cabinets carpeted before. Am I missing something?
Only if you "definitely"let them. Pet behavior can be directly attributed to its owner.
There was a memo sent out in the late 20th century that stated you don't have to hate cats because you have a dog, or vice versa.
I have both, and my cat only scratches what I let her scratch, including the dog if he provokes it.
And yes, cats love you only when they're hungry.
Probably not. I've got a rat fur cab, and for some reason new basses keep showing up at my house. It seems to be pretty effective way to trap them.
Originally I was turned off by the rat fur on my cabs, but I tend to take good care of my gear. I figure the cab will never see anything that a vacuum and a bottle of febreeze can't fix.

The rat fur is the only thing I don't like about my Markbass cab, dog hair sticks to it and is nearly impossible to get all of it off.
That's why you need a cat. He'll "comb" the carpet for you.

Rat fur is fast, cheap, easy and covers flaws.

Hate that stuff. I have an old POS Carvin combo that I keep only because it's my cats favorite scratching post. It keeps him from tearing up anything of value
I think they are some sort of tool used to refurbish tubes?What are these "vacuum cleaners" of which you speak?
Tubes go bad because too many free electrons have sloughed off and just float around inside. More electrons = less vacuum.
I used a 410XL for the better part of ten years in all manner of dive bar and other assorted venues and even though it's been retired for a number of years it still looks like it did when i got it.
No fan of rat fur but you cannot deny it's utility or durability.
I really don't care as long as it holds up and protects the cab.
Carpet seems more durable than Tolex. It certainly doesn't get those little nicks and cuts vinyl cabs tend to accumulate if you're gigging them - unless you had enough money left over after you bought your cab to pay the outlandish prices they want for covers these days.
For practical use, carpet may be a better idea. That said, I don't much care for it.
But then again, the only covering I could ever say I really liked was the orange vinyl with cream grill cloth Orange amps have. So I guess my choice has to be: 'carrots.'

I absolutely hate amps (or any other gear, like pedal boards) covered in "rat fur" carpet. The carpet is ugly and nigh-impossible to keep clean. Give me tolex or tight cloth like the Fender tweed covering.
