Why on earth do they put carpeting on cabs?

I've had 7 different cats over the years that I owned carpeted cabs. Not once did even one of them use them as a scratching post, although one loved to sleep atop the stack. Then again I trim their nails regularly, and provide them with cat nip type scratching posts. Over the last 30 years, not one piece or furniture or carpet has ever had damage.
P.S., my cat hates Duratex and Tolex!
I have not dyed a rat fur cab but if the need arose I would use Duplicolor carpet spray paint. Yes, paint. I restored an auto carpet with the stuff and it's fantastic. Stands up to daily use in my vehicle and looks great.

The 'fridge was never rat fur'd AFAIK.
The Acoustic 360 was never rat fur'd AFAIK.
Even PA guys with a dozen 150lb subs don't use it.
It's just gross. Every time you play through a rat fur'd cab, you are playing with every roadhouse it has ever been it.
My fridge came covered in some type of hard plastic. Sounded great too!
Sadly, I had to tear it down to a major design flaw. The beer was trapped inside the fridge. Also when I really cranked it, the shipping box for the 15"er made a little noise.

At this point I will not own any rat fur gear, especially so called "premium" gear. Doesn't matter how good it is. The local Mark Bass devotees look at me like I have three heads but thats the way it is.
So you have three heads, be proud of it! Will it make you any more intelligent.. well i don't know.. but you are unique!
Can we trade cats? To my cats, rat fur cabinets are like crack! I even buy those cheap empty rat fur covered car subwoofer boxes from China to use as disposeable scratching posts/cat play boxes. Cheaper than scratching posts and they go nuts for rat fur!
I agree with the above, but I have a white boxer which sheds profusely. Her short hairs instantly become embedded in any rat fur within the vicinity of my house. It would take an extra 30 minutes of cleaning with a vacuum once a week if I owned any gear with rat fur.
I love the stuff. It's on my Traynor. Thinking about covering my Ampeg cabs' ugly checkered tolex with the stuff.

Seriously though...I don't mind it at all. It stays clean if vacuumed and dusted from time to time along with the rest of the furniture.

I've had 1 or 2 short haired white dogs since Jan 2001, when I gave my wife "bubba lou" for graduation. Now two Terriors, a Jack and a Toy Fox. Went to the Philippines in 2005 and 2006 for a month each year, while the dogs stayed in the kennel. In 2006 I found white hair all over the house we stayed at, from the 2005 visit. Both times after a month of having our clothes washed in the Phils, we had white hairs all over the clothes after we left. I leave a path of destructive 1/2" white hair everywhere I go! I just looked at my laptop keyboard and stopped counting at ten. I didn't even notice it was dirty. Black fabric is forbidden in my house.
Because my two fully-armed cats love the feel of rat fur, my carpeted cabs now live in the guitar room with clawless cat #3 (he came to me that way). I used an old Schick Slim Twin razor to shave the cabs and they look better.
Apparently carpeted scratching posts confuse cats because they don't understand why their humans praise them for scratching a carpet-covered post, but scream and get out the water bottle when they claw a rug or speaker cabinet. I recently recovered my carpet-covered scratching posts with sisal rope and the cats are using them, but I don't trust the brats enough to return the rat fur cabs to the living room.
Incidentally, the cat in my avatar is sitting on a Tolex-covered Peavey speaker. He's never tried to scratch it.

That why you need a cat. He'll "comb" the carpet for you.
I have a cat he does not touch the rat fur, he likes to lay on pedals.
Been gigging both for years. Prefer tolex but carpet is more durable. In the end I prefer good tone over caring what covers my cabinet that sits at the back of the stage. I guess I understand if your cabinet is a permanent fixture in a living room or man-cave.
