Why on earth do they put carpeting on cabs?

Carpet covered cabs are shown by laboratory tests to be a highly effective Morrighan repellent, and its properties are exponentially amplified when combined with grill materials that make driver components visible.

Tan tweed cuts the mustard, though. And /me wonders about cabs covered in sailcloth. Sailcloth can be found in colors including black. Sailcloth cool quotient has high potential, IMO.

My older SWR and Aguilar cabs faired much better over the years than any Tolex covered equipment I've owned.

Rat fur can be vacuumed, washed, and then dyed to bring back the original "luster."

I believe I read somewhere here that rat fur can be shaved with an electric razor if it gets ratty.

An electric beard trimmer with no attachments works wonders. I've brought a used bass amp back to fine condition doing this.

Rat fur plus smoke filled bar or bong smoke filled rehearsal room equaled lots of fabreeze back in the day.

Rat fur covered cabs help to keep me from breathing cat/dog hair, hay, pollen.

Rat fur can be brushed, vacuumed, and shampooed every once in a while to keep it looking good. I have one ATA case with the stuff on it. That cab has taken a beating, the aluminum edges and steel corners have really been gouged up. The fur is in great shape.

I like carpeting. I have cabs and racks, some that are 25+ years old and still look great. It does get hair and lint stuck to it... Tolex gets torn. Plastic gets scuffed. Whatever Peavey used on these things will outlast the cockroaches in a nuclear blast.

I had a rat fur Crate head back in the 90's. I gigged with it often. I always looked/seemed dirty. It never ripped.

That stuff held up better than the cab, which was a hard surface that chipped often.

Without rat fur, we'd all be arguing about polyurethane vs. nitro on cabs. I think rat fur is for the best.

I'm seeing it two ways. Everyone can dress like hair stylists or wear lab coats for the professional look.

You can get mousewash at any grocery. I've never seen a similar product for cleaning rat fur. Maybe your salon can sell a specially formulated shampoo. Perhaps even market it on the home shopping network.

I have not dyed a rat fur cab but if the need arose I would use Duplicolor carpet spray paint. Yes, paint. I restored an auto carpet with the stuff and it's fantastic. Stands up to daily use in my vehicle and looks great.

Thanks for this-I was unaware of this product.

It protects your instrument better than tolex when leaning anything against it. Such as your bass. As in the Mark Bass "Bass Keeper Bass Holder".

I got a couple of these at a BPL gathering, and was unable to use them and unaware of how cool they are until I got my Carpeted Avatar cab.

I don't like it, but I wouldn't not buy a cab just for that reason.
