Why (or how) do you dislike people?

Unfortunately, I have plenty of reasons to dislike people, but I won't go there.

Ok, I'll play. Probably the worst thing and biggest turn off is when someone regurgitates ideas brainwashed on them like he or she actually came up with them. Someone who is incapable of stopping for one second to actually wonder if what he or she "believes" in is truly a commitment of their own. Think about a fanatic (religious, political, sports, fashion, pro-life, anyone) for an extreme example of what I mean. But anyone square-minded enough to block him or herself up when someone challenges their ideas is good enough for me to walk away in pure desdain.

Many of the disliked characteristics described in this thread could actually fall under one category: psychopaths.

Psychopaths and sociopaths are the extreme end of the characteristics that I can't stand in people, but you don't have to be psychopathic to have an over-inflated ego and treat other people with no respect, which to me seems to be the common ground for pretty much everything said in this thread.

It's not a matter of just disliking people, for me. It's that people have so much potential to do good/incredible things and so many choose to take the easy way, use others, do something stupid/amoral/immoral/illegal/terrible. I tell others that people are a huge disappointment for me and they say I'm just being negative.

If you're noting slight hypocrisy then you're right, but you are somewhat arguing semantics instead of the actual content. I definitely tolerant opposing views and opinions, but there are circumstances in which some people are wrong and they need to be told just that.

How do you know you're "right"?

Sorry, but the talking heads of any persuasion never have appealed to me. All they do anyway is keep people in turmoil between commercials.

Stupidity and ignorance! Its rampant in society and I have no tolerance for it. Anyone who shows me their ignorance and/or stupidity will not get my respect and I will dislike them. For example . . . anyone who identifies themselves with the "Tea Pary" falls into this.

I never implied that. I just said that some of the characteristics can fall under diagnostic criteria for psychopathy. And believe me, psychopathy is not as "extreme" as you think: don't make the mistake of thinking all psychopaths are million-dollar scammers or serial killers; even some guy who just wants to piss off people for the fun of it can have psychopathic traits. Plus, there seem to be a lot more psychopaths among us than what we think.

Someone who is oblivious to the symptoms of their physical presence in or near my personal space. I have never loathed a person so much as a former coworker who thought nothing of leaving used snot rags in plain sight of customers and came to work with bed head.

I guess this isn't so much a problem in these stages of my life, but people who don't take care of their own personal hygiene. My guitarist had a problem with this until everyone in band told him he stunk and needed to bath on a daily basis.

I dislike people in general but, it's part of the burden of being a cynic.

I really dislike ignorant or outright stupid people. People who watch reality TV that drags their mind even farther into the gutter (Real Housewives comes to mind) and people who disagree with anything I say. Ever.

Well, I'm 56, taking those first joyous moments of swirling around the toilet rim of senility, and have decided over the years that a lot of what passes for "intellectualism" is the mumblings of overly analytical types. Ultimately there's only a few basics to Life.

I don't dislike all people but when I do, it's generally because of arrogance, lies, gross insincerity, superficiality or any combination of the above.

How do I dislike people?

In every way possible. From the left, from the right, from the top, from the bottom, from the front, from the back, with all my brain, with all my heart, with all my might, with any and every negative emotion that I can call upon at a given time.

Looks like I'm kinda bitter as a person.

One ting that gets my goat mon - actually, it doesn't really bother me, more of a slight amusement - is how many people will say something along the lines of "think for yourself, get out of the dark ages, stop regurgitating what you were spoonfed..." in one breath, and then take another breath and say "Carlin says, Lennon says, Socrates says, Operation Ivy says...."
